Event begins with Cruise Night Friday evening, car show Saturday afternoon
Cars, trucks and motorcycles will roar through Chillicothe for the 25th Annual Lion’s Club Car Show this weekend. Cruise Night will jump start the weekend’s events on Friday, July 19, at 7:30 p.m. The vehicles will begin their cruise of Chillicothe at the courthouse, and they will travel North on Washington, West on Highway 190, drive past Indian Hills Nursing Home and back to the square.
The tour will take about one hour, and the vehicles will park on the square until 10 p.m., where spectators can view the cars and talk with the owners. The Monster bus will also be parked on the square Friday evening, at the completion of the cruise.
Event Organizer Kim Bloss said that she anticipates more than 200 entries for Cruise Night.
“It’s an enjoyable evening for family, and for people that love old cars,” Bloss said. “They love it.”
On Saturday, registration for the car show will last from 7 to 11 a.m. at Simpson Park. More than 300 cars, trucks and motorcycles from Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota will be on the grounds for spectators to view. Admission is free, and there will be games for both adults and kids throughout the day, as well as food vendors. Door prizes will be given out, a 50/50 drawing will be held and there will be an auction at 1 p.m. to auction off some of the bigger items that were donated.
Car dealerships will place several of their cars on display, which will be featured in the center of the grounds. Entries in the car show will receive awards at 3 p.m., with the event coming to a close near 4:30 p.m. Bloss said that the car show is a major event in Chillicothe, and has something to offer for everyone.
"I think it benefits Chillicothe greatly because it brings a lot of money and a lot of people to town — not just from this area,” Bloss said. “It brings people from all over. There's cars coming from five or six states. It brings a lot of revenue to town ... It's one of the biggest things that happens in Chillicothe. I think it's great."
