The Livingston County Library will be offering patrons the opportunity to try out a variety of eReaders and tablets and learn about the Library’s eBooks program, Overdrive; Zinio digital magazines and our audiobook program, OneClick Digital. A variety of new devices including a Google Nexus, Windows Surface, Ipad Mini, Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Paperwhite are available to test drive in addition to eReaders and other devices that the library owns.
“We know that there is a lot of interest in eReaders and similar devices, and we want to give people the option of test driving devices and learn what library services they can use on the devices,” remarked Library Director Robin Westphal.
Library staff will be on hand to demonstrate the devices and the Library’s eBooks, digital magazines and audiobooks programs.
“We find that a lot of people are uneasy using technology, but once they get their hands on these devices and learn about the many ways they can use them, they are not as intimidated or scared about jumping into a new way to read books or magazines or listen to books,” continued Westphal.
“The test drive events will be held from 9am-6pm on both August 13 and August 14, but devices are always available for demonstration,” stated Westphal.
These devices were obtained through a grant the Library administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Secretary of State’s office, and funded by the Library Services and Technologies Act though the U.S. Department of Museum and Library Services.
