  • Man in custody for assault of infant

  • On Sunday, Aug. 4, Chillicothe Police officers responded to a residence in Chillicothe in reference to an unresponsive infant.

  • On Sunday, Aug. 4, Chillicothe Police officers responded to a residence in Chillicothe in reference to an unresponsive infant.
    The infant was transported by EMS to Hedrick Medical Center, then to Children’s Mercy Hospital in critical condition.
    Through the process of treatment at both facilities the injuries discovered on the infant were deemed non-accidental.
    Through the process of the investigation that ensued by the Police Department, an arrest warrant was issued for Jacob Dean Lewis, 23, by the Livingston County Court for 1st degree assault. The warrant carried a $100,000 dollar cash bond.
    According to medical reports included in the statement of probable caused filed with Prosecuting Attorney Adam Warren, the infant, two months old, was found to have several injuries, including multiple bruises on her head that were in different stages of bruising, internal brain bleeds that accompanied an altered mental status, a broken rib that showed healing of 10 to 14 days, and bruising and retinal bruising of the eyes.
    Lewis is currently in custody at the Daviess DeKalb Regional Jail.
