  • The Royal Ambassadors Old Time Band will perform an assembly for music students at Chillicothe High School tomorrow (Friday).
The Ambassadors come from Iowa, Wisconsin and Missouri to provide an opportunity for students to learn about the historical importance of old-time music such as polkas, waltzes and marches.
The band is headed by retired University of Wisconsin professor Bob Kauffman, who grew up in Princeton, Mo.
In addition to performing for CHS music students, the Ambassadors will perform for students at Trenton High School and at schools in Mercer and Princeton. They will also be performing throughout this weekend for the annual festival celebration of Calamity Jane Days in Princeton.
The assembly concert in Chillicothe is being played in memory of Chillicothe’s legendary instrumental music instructor, Claude T. Smith, who is a well-known composer among band musicians throughout the country, and whose music is a favorite of Kauffman’s.
Joining with the band in Chillicothe will be Chillicothe musicians Sarah Cavanah, current CHS instrumental instructor; Joe Gilliland; Mel Gregg; John Hanks and John (Corky) Hesler.
The CHS assembly is sponsored by the Chillicothe Area Arts Council.
