  • Schuyler County is finishing up a brutal stretch of three games that has seen them play top 10 teams Marceline and Salisbury. The stretch is over after this week, however Westran might be the best of the bunch. The No. 3 Hornets welcome the Rams on Friday night as SC looks for their first win of the season, and Westran looks to remain perfect.
The Rams haven't let these games and the losses they have suffered derail their thoughts for this season.
"My kids are working hard this week in practice. They saw the improvement in the Salisbury game and they're ready to get even better this week. They are better than expected for a team coming off three losses," said Schuyler County head coach Nick Wooldrick.
The biggest issue for the Rams has been putting points on the board. Salisbury and Marceline kept SC off the scoreboard. The problem this week is that the Hornets have allowed a total of 13 points in three games, including a shutout against TRC member North Shelby.
"Offensively we are just continuing to work on what we do. We want to run the ball and set up some play action passing," said Wooldrick.
The silver lining for the Rams is that these games are not conference or against district competition, so facing elite teams now should help SC when they open conference play next week.
"Well, we do have a hard stretch of games here playing three ranked teams in a row but, I feel its only going to make us better and we are starting to see signs of that already," said Wooldrick.
Facing a team near the top of the class rankings on the road is a tough test, but Wooldrick isn't going to let his team feel sorry for themselves.
"My expectations are the same as every Friday night. We go out and compete, fight until the whistle every play and win football games," said Wooldrick.
