The House of Prayer hosted its third annual "Harvest of Praise" at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Mervyn Jenkin's Expo Center. Nearly 140 people attended the musical event, and $1213 was raised from the event. Worship Director of House of Prayer Mary Lou VanDeventer said that the total is down from last year, but they were still pleased.
"We were thrilled," VanDeventer said. "Even last year, the week after the event, we had people sending in donations still, so it's not uncommon for us to continue to receive donations after the event."
Grand River Harmony Chorus began the evening's performances, followed by several other musicians. There were 28 songs sang in total, including gospel and country songs.
All proceeds from the event go towards the different programs House of Prayer offers. They provide three free hot meals per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. There is also a resource room that contains household and personal care items for those in need. Donations from the evening's event will help to provide the necessities to keep these programs going.
The House of Prayer will host another free musical program, "Celebrate Christmas," which will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.
