For the first time in South Park's 17-season history, creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker missed the deadline to complete an episode, Comedy Central announced Wednesday.
Instead of the previously scheduled new episode, "Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers," a repeat of the "Scott Tenorman Must Die" episode will air on Wednesday at 10/9c. There will be live-tweeting during the encore, and "Goth Kids 3" will instead premiere next Wednesday.
So what caused the South Park creative team to (finally) miss the mark? A power outage at South Park Studios, which shut down all animation, editing and sound computers for hours. "It sucks to miss an air date, but after all these years of tempting fate by delivering the show last minute, I guess it was bound to happen," Parker said in a statement.
For those skeptical about the story, South Park Studios' website posted several pictures of Parker, Stone and various other members of the team, looking distressed and confused during the blackout.
South Park airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on Comedy Central.
