  • At an assembly held at Chillicothe Middle School Friday morning, students were recognized for winning the 2013 Scholastic Summer Challenge in Missouri. Overall, students logged 173,620 minutes during the summer of 2013, making CMS the school with the most minutes logged in the entire state.
Pam Thorp, Book Fair Field Representative for Scholastic, presented the school with a plaque. She congratulated the students, and said that it is important for students to read over the summer so that they don't lose reading skills.
Kristy Clampitt, sixth grade reading teacher at CMS, has been in charge of enrolling CMS students in the summer reading program for the past two years. Clampitt encourages fifth grade students who will be enrolling as sixth graders to take part in the program during the summer before their sixth grade year. In 2012, CMS came in fourth place in the state.
