Did You Know

Most holiday gift-wrap is not recyclable because of the ink type and tape. Instead, use plain paper and decorate it yourself. Sharleen Smith, founder of WrapNatural, a company that sells environmentally friendly wrapping products, told Recyclebank that she has used her son’s artwork to wrap presents. For those born without an artistic gene, reuse newspapers, magazines, scarves or scraps of fabric to wrap up your holiday goodies.

Garden Guide

Before it gets too icy, go out into your own backyard or for a hike in the woods and look for fallen oak and maple leaves, acorns, pine cones and berry sprigs to adorn your table — almost anything will work. Magnolia leaves, boxwood branches and twigs look so pretty when nestled together on a tablecloth. For color, use organic fruits that can be eaten later, or gourds that can be recycled into a beautiful birdhouse after Thanksgiving.

Home-Selling Tip

The real estate boom and subsequent market collapse spawned many "fly-by-night" organizations. Check a company's credentials to ensure you won't be taken in by a less reputable one or one that's on shaky financial footing.
