  • The Livingston County Foundation has approved grants totaling $12,500 to three causes: The Livingston County Humane Society, the Safe Haven Center and the YMCA Partner with Youth Campaign.
The Livingston County Foundation announce a grant in the amount of $5,000 to finance a low income spay and neuter program for the Livingston County Humane Society. Shelter Guardian Leslie Patek stated that the project will reduce the population of unwanted animals that are either disposed of or set free and eventually wind up at the animal shelter. Patek said that her hope was to make this a continuing project in future years through fundraising projects.
The foundation also approved a $5,000 grant to help keep the Chillicothe Women’s Shelter in operation. In December 2011, the Green Hills Community Action Agency agreed to transfer the shelters to a new organization, Green Hills Women’s Shelters, which included shelters in Cameron and Trenton as well as Chillicothe. In July 2013, the decision was made by the other two towns to close the Chillicothe shelter. Rather than lose the facility, a new group called the Safe Haven Center was formed under the non-profit Livingston County Educational Council. The foundation is very supportive of the shelter and urges other groups and individuals to contribute to their efforts.
A third grant to the YMCA Partner with Youth campaign in the amount of $2,500 was also approved. This was a matching gift to encourage new donors to contribute and eventually have a $5,000 impact on Livingston County children. The funds provide YMCA memberships and programs for low income children and families as well as helping to underwrite the cost of Y-PALS.
The Livingston County Community Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1998 to develop and manage the future funding of various educational, community wellness and economic development programs for the benefit of all citizens of Livingston County.
