Final details are wrapping up for the PBS documentary "Slice of Life" premiere and the reception to follow this Thursday evening.
Around 150 people have registered for the event and reservations were still being made today (Monday). The evening will begin with the 7 p.m. showing of the documentary at Grand 6 Theater in Chillicothe.
"This is the culmination of two years worth of work," said Amy Supple, director of the Greater Chillicothe Tourism Region. "People are excited to see it."
The documentary, 27 minutes in length and produced by KCPT, will feature Chillicothe as the first place in the world to introduce commercially-sliced bread to the buying public. The documentary will be shown nationwide after the first of the year on public television to an estimated 7 million viewers.
"Not only is it the history of sliced bread and our innovation, but also a story of the amazing spirit of the people of Chillicothe over the years and currently," Supple said. "This is something our entire town will be proud of."
Ed Douglas, chairman of the Sliced Bread Committee, will make a few remarks prior to the showing as will a member of the documentary team. Following the showing, a 1920s-inspired reception will be held at Chillicothe Country Club. Guests of the "Slice of Life" documentary premiere party will enjoy Missouri wine tasting, featuring Missouri wines from the Missouri Wine and Grape Board. Missouri is home to 125 wineries. The reception will include hors d'oeuvres, recognition of sponsors and live piano music.
Reservations are still being accepted. Admission is $60 for two people to attend both the premiere and the reception. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Home of Sliced Bread Committee efforts. Those interested should contact Amy Supple at 660-646-4050.
The documentary will be shown again at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24. There will be no admission charge for the Sunday showing, but seating will be limited.
