LINNEUS — The Locust Creek Bridge on Route B in Linn County is to be replaced, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. The contractor will begin work Nov. 18, 2013 to replace the bridge, which has been closed since June 6, 2013.
"Our goal is to have the bridge completed as soon as possible, to help with spring planting," said MoDOT Northwest Area Engineer Tonya Lohman. "We realize how vital this bridge is to the community and did all we could to accelerate the project when it was determined the bridge couldn't be repaired"
MoDOT contracted with Hanson Professional Services, Inc. as the consultant to prepare bridge and roadway plans for the bridge replacement. Consultant staff surveyed the area and conducted geotechnical investigations. MoDOT staff evaluated environmental, cultural and architectural resources in the project area. The contract to replace the old railroad truss bridge, which dates back to the 1880s and was repurposed in the 1930s on the state system, was part of the September 2013 bid opening. A $1,271,023.00 contract to replace the bridge was awarded to L. F. Krupp Construction, Inc.
The current bridge will remain closed until the new one is in place and motorists will need to continue using an alternate route. Completion is expected by May 1, 2014. MoDOT apologizes for any inconvenience this necessary closure may cause.
All work is weather permitting. MoDOT apologizes for any inconvenience that this necessary project may cause. MoDOT encourages all motorists to slow down, buckle up and drive safely through work zones to ensure everyone can Arrive Alive.
