Vera Veneta Mathews, 85, of Chillicothe, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Indian Hills in Chillicothe.
Veneta Mathews was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Chillicothe, Mo., the daughter of Manzel England and Vernia Bate England.
On Aug. 18, 1943, Veneta married George Eugene Mathews in Tacoma, Wash. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1987.
Veneta worked for several years in the laundry at Indian Hills then she went to the laundry at Long-Blum Retirement Center and retired after 18 years of service.
She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and the Royal Neighbors. Veneta enjoyed sewing, quilting, watching game shows on TV and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Veneta is survived by a daughter, Charlene Hamilton of Chillicothe; three grandchildren, Ronald Frazier, Anita Cox and husband Jason, and Teresa Larson and husband Chad; and five great grandchildren, Eugene Frazier and wife Sarah, Trinity Cox, Bryan Cox, Colton Larson and Molly Larson and a great great granddaughter, Kassia; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Kermit England, Delbert England and a sister Erma Baker.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo.
Burial will be at Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Mo.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
