The Livingston County Library will be hosting a Downton Abbey themed formal English afternoon tea on Sunday, January 5th from 2-4pm. The tea is being held to celebrate the start of Season 4 of the popular PBS series which will air later that evening.
The event will feature a typical English tea, including tea sandwiches and sweets catered by Anna Marie’s Tea Shop in Liberty and Francine’s Pastry Parlor. Brenda Hedrick, owner of Anna Marie’s Tea Shop, hosts many English teas and will be presenting a historical program that will touch on the tradition of the English afternoon tea and how to properly brew tea.
“We plan to make this as historically accurate as possible while still enjoying the humor and drama that we’ve all come to love about Downton Abbey,” stated Livingston County Library Program Coordinator Jean Looff.
Period costume is encouraged but not required. Downton Abbey themed trivia games and other activities will also be a part of this program. Themed prizes will also be given away.
“Downton Abbey has been one of the most popular television series ever checked out at the Library and because of the phenomenon we’ve expanded our collection of British period dramas in our DVD collection,” remarked Library Director Robin Westphal.
The cost of the program is $5 and registration is required and may be done in person or by calling 660-646-0547. Payment must be received prior to the event.
