Eugene Raymond “Gene” Carlton, age 84, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at his residence.
Gene was born the son of Fred and Bertha (Baymiller) Carlton on June 7, 1929, in Chillicothe, Mo. Gene was a 1947 graduate of Chillicothe High School. Gene Served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he earned a Purple Heart and five Bronze stars. He then married Pat Blair and they had two children Craig and Lisa. On July 28, 1963, Gene married Myrna Davis in Chillicothe, Missouri and they had two sons Clark and James. Gene worked for Lambert Manufacturing of Chillicothe for 43 years, during which time he served as President of the company. Gene was a member of the Vern R. Glick American Legion Post 25 of Chillicothe, the VFW Post 858 of Chillicothe, the Chillicothe Elks Lodge B.P.O.E #656, Ducks Unlimited, Quail Forever, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Chillicothe United Methodist Church. He was an all-around outdoorsman and most of all enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Myrna of the home; three sons Craig Carlton and wife Kim of Springdale, Ark., Clark Carlton and wife Ryley of Chillicothe, Mo., and James Carlton and wife Melissa of Springfield, Mo.; one Daughter Lisa Whetstine of Alma, Ark; one sister Doris Rowe of Atlanta, Ga. Gene is also survived by five grandchildren, Lindsey Lowrey of Gallatin, Mo., Chelsea and Colton Whetstine of Alma, Ark., and Carly and Colin Carlton of Chillicothe, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Donald “Shotgun” Carlton and one sister Virginia Eastman.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 21, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home Chillicothe, Mo. Burial will be at the Avalon Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home Chillicothe, Mo. There is no scheduled Family visitation. Friends are welcome to call at the family home at any time.
