  • Strong winds with gusts of up to 54 mph blew through the area Thursday afternoon and evening, causing a tree to fall into utility lines and sever power for residents in north Chillicothe.
A couple hundred customers from north of Lambert Drive to the area of Grand 6 Theater were without power for about two hours, starting at 6:22 p.m. The incident took out a circuit on the north part of town, said Electric Distribution Superintendent Matt  Hopper. In trying to get it back up, CMU experienced equipment malfunction in the substation. It took crews about two hours to make the necessary repair and restore power.
The National Weather Service, which had issued a wind advisory for Thursday afternoon and evening, reported that gusts reached 54 mph at the Chillicothe Municipal airport.
