  • To help educate athletes in the eighth through 12th grades and their parents about the "ins and outs" of pursuing a college athletics scholarship and the college recruiting process, a free, hour-long informational seminar entitled "Guiding the College-Bound Athlete" will be presented in the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center at Chillicothe High School Thursday, March 20, 2014.  It will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is open to anyone in the area and region who might be interested.
Presenting the program on behalf of Dynamite Sports will be Wes Simmons of St. Joseph, Mo., a former college football assistant coach.
Athletes in the eighth grade through senior year, as well as their parents, who are considering trying to obtain an athletics scholarship at the college level could benefit from the seminar.
The session will provide information about NCAA and NAIA academic eligibility requirements in addition to sharing information on what college scholarships typically include in the way of benefits, the requirements for maintaining scholarships, and how the recruiting process works.
It will help athletes and parents learn how to set up visits to colleges, how to create a "recruiting plan," where to look for financial aid and scholarships, and how to find the right college, according to Dynamite Sports promotional materials.  It also will aim to assist parents in becoming both more knowledgeable and realistic about scholarship opportunities for their child(ren).
