  • Joan Kay (Murray) Colliver, 71, St. Joseph, Mo., died Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Living Community of St. Joseph.
    She was born Nov. 29, 1942, in Chillicothe, Mo., to Vaughn and Doris (Hussey) Murray.
    She graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1960, Christian College with an Associate Arts degree in 1962, Missouri Western State College with a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1988, and Kansas University with a Masters of Social Work in 1990.
    On August 12, 1962, she married Larry Colliver. He survives of the home.
    Joan worked as an addiction recovery counselor at The Sunrise Center in St. Joseph, a family issues counselor at Family Guidance, the director of the Addiction Recovery department at the State Hospital and a Clinical Social Worker at Hands of Hope Hospice for 10 years, retiring in 2001.
    She was an active member of Grace Evangelical Church where she volunteered as the Missions Information Editor and a weekly volunteer at Grace House.
    She was a loving wife, a great mother and a wonderful friend.
    Mrs. Colliver was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Joseph Vaughn Murray.
    Additional survivors include her two daughters, Tammie (Darrell) of St. Joseph, and Tracie (Kevin) of Vista, CA; five granddaughters, Nikki (Royce), Ashley (John), Becky (Andrew), Libby (Josh), and Emma; four great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
    Memorial Services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at Grace Evangelical Church, St. Joseph. Private Inurnment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 25 at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, 5005 Frederick Boulevard, where friends may call after 4 p.m.The family suggests memorial gifts to the Grace Evangelical College Scholarship Fund and Hands of Hope Hospice.
