The west wall of Dewey Elementary School, on Dickinson Street, is the focus of the Hayward Baker, Inc. group in the upcoming weeks. This is a pier project, as reported by Dr. Roger Barnes, superintendent of the Chillicothe R-2 School District. The ground has settled and has caused cracking and leaking. For maintenance and safety issues this problem is being addressed. On Tuesday, the bushes in front of the building were removed in preparation for work to begin. The goal for completion of the project is Aug. 15. Two bids were submitted for this project and Hayward Baker, Inc., was the successful bidder, submitting a bid for $284,000. Other bids submitted at the Chillicothe R-2 School Board meeting at noon on Monday were for the asphalt repairs and sealing bids for the new high school parking lot and circle drive. One bid was received from Blacktop Paving maintenance, Inc., in the amount of $41,227. One bid was received for the GRTS building trades basement. The bid was received from Jeremy Arnold Concrete Construction for $22,635.75. Both bids were approved. The board also approved the final bids for 2013-14, totaling $151,441.17.
