1 Walt Disney Hometown Museum (Marceline): Marceline is located about 40 miles east of Chillicothe on U.S. Highway 36. Walt Disney first came to Marceline by train when he was five years old. Guests can visit his boyhood home and stroll down Main Street USA. The Walt Disney Hometown Museum is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 1 until 4 p.m. on Sunday through Oct. 31. (www.waltdisneymuseum.org). Admission is $10 for adults 11 years of age and older, and $5 for children 6 to 10 years of age.

2 Gen. Pershing Boyhood Home and Historic Site (Laclede) Approximately 29 miles east of Chillicothe and one mile north on Highway 5. Gen. John J. Pershing, the highest raking military officer in the U.S. grew up in Laclede. His boyhood home includes displays that relate to local history, as well as to Pershing’s life and career. The one-room school where Pershing taught also is at the site. Admission: $4 for adults (18 and older), $3 for students (6-17 years of age).

3 Locust Creek Covered bridge Three miles west of Laclede on Highway 36, and 1 mile northeast on a gravel road. This bridge is the longest of the four surviving covered bridges in the state. Visitors may approach the bridge by a one-quarter mile walk.

4 Pershing State Park. 3,566 acres provide opportunities for camping, fishing, picnicking, swimming, hiking and backpacking.

5 Brookfield The Tillman House Museum tells the story of Brookfield and all of Linn County. Exhibits include railroad history, period home furnishings and genealogy information on Linn County.
