Matthew J. Wenzel has been named chief executive officer of Hedrick Medical Center effective Jan. 14. He was appointed interim CEO following the departure of Jim Johnson, who retired in September.

Wenzel joined Hedrick Medical Center in 2006 as a senior site analyst in the information systems department and became director of ancillary services in 2007. His experience includes leadership in strategic planning, operations and performance improvement. He previously was employed at Cerner Corporation of Kansas City.

He has a bachelor’s degree in biology and master’s degrees in health administration and health care informatics from the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Active in the community, Wenzel has served as a Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce Ambassador since 2006, and is on the boards for the Rotary Club of Chillicothe, Grand River Area Family YMCA and Salvation Army. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

“Matt has done a very good job in his interim CEO role for the past several months,” said Don Sipes, vice president for Regional Services at Saint Luke’s Health System. “That, coupled with his other experience in management at Hedrick over the past four years, has prepared him well to guide the hospital into the future. He enjoys the respect and support of his colleagues in the Saint Luke’s Health System as well as at Hedrick and in the Chillicothe community. We are very pleased to formalize his leadership position at this exciting point in the history of the hospital.”

Wenzel enjoys going to the YMCA and University of Missouri sports.
He and his wife, Andrea, and daughters, Hannah, 4, and Chloe, 2, are active members of the First Baptist Church of Chillicothe.
