On Monday night, the two teams got together once again at Lankford Field, this time for a Class 2 Quarterfinal.
The Tigers would trade possessions with Monroe the first few times, but Macon would break through about seven minutes in, on a 10-yard run by Nic Hamilton. The extra-point was wide, and the Tigers held a 6-0 lead.
With seconds to go in the first period, Monroe would score their only points of the night on a three-yard dive by Blake Grice. The extra-point was good, and the host Panthers led 7-6 after a period of play.
The Tigers would open the scoring flood gates in the second quarter.
Taquan Kelly would score twice in the period, on a five-yard run and a big 52-yard dash for 12 points.
Henry Walker would get in on the scoring just before halftime, as he bounced off a defender and rushed in from 15 yards out for a TD.
Macon would lead by 18, 25-7, at halftime.
Quarterback Dylan Perrin would round out the scoring in the third period on a two-yard run to make the final score 31-7, Macon Tigers.
Henry Walker showed just how healthy he had become since getting hurt a few weeks ago. The senior runner rushed 17 times for 180 yards and a touchdown.
Taquan Kelly rushed 12 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Nic Hamilton carried the ball seven times for 55 yards and a TD. Joseph Flowers rushed four times for 44 yards. Zach Mitchell rushed six times for 20 yards.
On defense, the Tigers were led by Joey Turner and Nic Hamilton, who combined for 26 tackles, 13 each. Turner also recored a sack. Devon Schubert also recovered a fumble.
Macon improves to 11-1 and will travel to Wardsville Saturday to take on the Blair Oaks Falcons, who beat South Callaway 14-8 Monday.
