It is almost a carbon-copy of what happened in 2010.
After stumbling in their final game of the regular season, against Centralia, the Macon Tigers will make the long trek north to Kahoka for the Class 2 Regional round against the Clark County Indians.
In Week 5 of the 2011 season, the Tigers made that same trek to Indian country, and would shut them down on what was their Homecoming night by the score of 38-0.
In Week 10, the Tigers had hoped to take their first District title since 1996, and effectively end Centralia’s 64-game win streak in the regular season.
It would go the way of the first 2010 matchup, as Centralia would once again get away with a narrow win, this time 14-7 at Hugh Dunn Field.
If all goes the way of 2010, then the Tigers will be destined to meet the Panthers once again in the Sectional round at Miller Field in Centralia.
And, if things go the way of 2010, about the only thing you could call it this year would be “Part II: The Sequel.”
Macon running back Henry Walker has seen limited time on offense since coming back from a leg injury, but looked pretty good against the Brookfield Bulldogs in Week 9.
In a near repeat of the first game against the Panthers in 2010, Taquan Kelly was limited in gaining positive yards, so you could expect a huge game from him if the Tigers get the rematch.
But, first things first, they have to take another road win against Clark County tomorrow night.
The Macon defense will have to find a way to slow down quarterback Seth
Williams, who happens to be one of Clark County’s best runners.
Williams’ measurements may not be impressive, but his statistics surely are.
Williams rushed for 95 yards on 11 carries last week against the Highland Cougars.
Williams is also a danger when he goes to the air. The Clark quarterback completed 15 of 19 passes against the Cougars, racking 230 yards and three touchdowns on the night.
When Williams thought it best to hand the ball off, against Highland, he went with freshman Bryce Boudreau. He carried the ball 18 times for 96 yards, his longest being a 58-yard touchdown run.
When Williams decided to pass the ball, one of his favorite targets is senior receiver Matt Loter. Loter collected three receptions against Highland for a total of 92 yards.
Another of Williams’ targets is senior receiver Dalton McCarty. The 6’ 1” 180 lb. receiver collected three receptions with 62 yards against Highland.
McCarty also likes to hit people on defense. Against South Shelby, he and teammate Tyler Eggers, also the team’s reliable place-kicker, combined for 22 tackles, 11 apiece.
Also high up in the tackle category were linemen Brandon Bourgeois with eight, linebacker Bryce Boudreau with nine, and free safety Matt Loter had eight.
If everything goes the way it did in 2010, then we can expect to see the Tigers in a rematch with Centralia on November 7, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We have work to do tomorrow night at Clark County, so are you with me?
Then let’s do it!
