Livingston County Assessor Steve Ripley reminds property owners, including businesses, that they must report all personal property owned on Jan. 1 to the assessor’s office by Thursday, March 1, 2012. Those not returning a completed list to the assessor by the deadline may be subject to a penalty.

In January, the assessor’s office mailed every property owner reflected on the assessor’s records a form upon which personal property must be reported. If anyone failed to receive a form or lost the form, a new one can be obtained by contacting the assessor’s office at 660-646-8000, Ext. 2.

Ripley also advises that if you were a new resident of the county as of Jan. 1, 2012, you must contact the assessor’s office to be placed on the assessment roll books and have a form mailed to you for the reporting of your personal property.

With less than two weeks left in February, Ripley reports that only 52 percent of the forms mailed out have been returned to the Assessor’s Office.
