Filing may start Tuesday

Date still uncertain, pending state legislation

Candidate filing for Livingston County offices will begin, as of now, on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 8 a.m., and will continue through Tuesday, March 27, at 5 p.m.

However, just last week the Missouri Senate passed legislation that would move the filing period back a full month due to redistricting. New days to file would be Tuesday, March 27, and would continue through April 24, if the House approves the vote. A decision is expected to be made soon.

In Livingston County, candidates may file for the offices of County Commissioner (East District), County Commissioner (West District), Sheriff, Assessor, Collector-Treasurer, Public Administrator, Coroner and Surveyor.

Those filing candidacy in Livingston County will do so in the office of County Clerk and Election Authority, Sherry Parks at the Livingston County Courthouse.

Declarations of candidacy may be filed for the following political officers who are to be elected at the Primary Election: Township and Ward Committeemen or Township and Ward Committeewomen.

In addition, such offices that become vacant by expiration of term, by death or resignation of incumbent or vacant for any cause, and which under the law, should be filled at the general election to be held Nov. 6, 2012.    

Offices for the east and west district commissioner, as well as the sheriff, public administrator, coroner and surveyor, are held Jan. 1, 2013, through Dec. 31, 2016. Each commissioner salary is set at $30,837 per year, with the sheriff’s annual salary at $50,696. The public administrator makes $46,183, and the coroner, $14,588. The office of surveyor holds no salary.

The county assessor term will run from Sept. 1, 2013, through Aug. 31, 2017, with an annual salary of $46,183.

The county collector-treasurer term runs from April 1, 2013, through March 31, 2017, making $46,183, plus approximately $8,000 in fees.

Filing for the state offices will take place in the office of Robin Carnahan, Missouri Secretary of State, in the James C. Kirkpatrick State Information Center at 600 West Main Street in Jefferson City, Mo. Offices up for election are: U.S. Senator, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Attorney General, Representatives in Congress for Sixth Congressional District, State Senator for the 21st District, Members of the House of Representatives for the 7th Legislative District, Circuit Judge Circuit No. 43, Division 1, Circuit Judge Circuit No. 43, Division 2.
