Melba Shields, age 99, of Meadville, died Sunday, December 4, 2016, at her home. A memorial service will be Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Community Center in Meadville with Bro. Jed Angell and Bro. Rex Butts officiating.
Melba Shields, age 99, of Meadville, died Sunday, December 4, 2016, at her home. A memorial service will be Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Community Center in Meadville with Bro. Jed Angell and Bro. Rex Butts officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield. Memorials to the Meadville RIV School Library or the Meadville Community Center may be left at the Community Center or mailed to Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, P.O. Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628. Melba Rudene, daughter of Rudolph E. and Fernie Frances (Anderson) Thomas, was born August 19, 1917 in Wakenda. On November 17, 1935, she married Ralph W. Shields who preceded her in death on January 7, 1991. Melba worked at the Bank of Meadville for 24 years, retiring in 1980 and never missed a day of work due to illness. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Chillicothe, the Busy Bee Club and the RSVP Volunteers. Melba also volunteered for 16 years at the Meadville RIV School and was affectionately known as “Gran” by many students. Survivors include two children, Ray F. Shields and wife, Mary Jo and Janeta Smith and husband, Virgil all of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Jason Shields of Boulder, Colorado, Rachel Shields of Bozeman, Montana, Kip Shields of Seattle, Washington, Rachel Young of Meadville, Joy Main of Bucklin, Jill Angell of Centralia, and Darren Smith and Blaine Smith both of Meadville; 20 great-grandchildren and 13 great great-grandchildren and one sister, Eleanor Keller of Raymore. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years; one brother, Elmer Stanley, Jr.; and one sister, Mayme Williams.
