Chillicothe City Council members reviewed and approved a list of events scheduled to take place at Simpson Park this year and granted permission for the park to be closed during the events. Josh Norris, director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Chillicothe, presented the list to council members during their regular meeting Monday evening. Events included on the list: YMCA Easter Egg Hunt (April), Darin Bryan Memorial FCA Race (May), Livingston County Relay for Life (June), Chill and Grill BBQ Contest (June/July), YMCA Freedom Run (July), Freedom Festival (July), Chillicothe Car Show (July), Boy Scouts District Camporee (August), Chautauqua (September), High School Cross Country Meet (September), Festival of Lights (November). Norris stated that the BBQ contest and the Boy Scout Camporee are new events for Chillicothe. Eric Turner, scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 120, was at Monday’s meeting and explained that the Camporee could involve between 150 and 200 Boy Scouts from throughout the area setting up a “tent city” and camping out, cooking meals, watching a movie in the park on Friday, and participating in park games and swimming at Chilli Bay Water Park on Saturday.
