EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Experimental Aircraft Association, Inc. has announced that Drew Minnis (Chillicothe), Jackson Pauley (Chula); and Wesley Sportsman (Marceline) have been selected and sponsored by EAA Chapter 944, to attend the 2017 EAA Advanced Air Academy in Oshkosh, Wis. The EAA Air Academy offers young people the opportunity to meet and work with aviation professionals, while living and learning the arts, sciences, and lore of aviation in both classroom and workshop settings. They join many other young people, ages 16-18, in this aviation program. Several days of the Academy take place during the world’s largest aviation event – EAA AirVenture 2017. Participants in the EAA Air Academy come from around the United States and several foreign countries. Academy activities will include flight experience, workshops, and classroom study. “The EAA Air Academy teaches young people new skills and instills a pride of craftsmanship,” said Bob Campbell, EAA’s director of Museum & Museum Education. “More importantly, it develops their leadership potential and broadens their understanding of both aviation and themselves. The EAA Air Academy is a benchmark of personal experience... and an aviation experience that will last a lifetime.” EAA Chapter 944, of Chillicothe, has sponsored 16 individuals since 2012 to attend the Advanced Air Academy. Chapter 944 hosts an annual Fly-In event each year in August which provides funds to pay for participants expenses. Drew is the son of Cory and Leslie Minnis. Jackson is the son of Danielle Pauley, and Wesley Sportsman is son of Mike and Diane Sportsman. Last year, participants were Kyle Elliott, Tony Garcia, Brett Shaffer and Mason Taylor.
