Michelle Johnson named Employee of the Year
Numerous Hedrick Medical Center employees were recently honored for their years of service at the hospital’s annual Winter Celebration. The celebration was held at the Elks Lodge on Saturday, January 21. It was attended by approximately 250 people. Forty-seven staff members were awarded for their years of service to Hedrick Medical Center. More than 25 years: Kay Grell, Rehabilitation Services; Dawn Martin, Laboratory; and Debbie Shafer, Medical Surgical. More than 30 years: Nancy Johnston, Intensive Care Unit. Also honored at the Winter Celebration was Michelle Johnson, Licensed Practical Nurse, as the 2016 Employee of the Year. Michelle was chosen by the Employee of the Quarter Selection Committee to receive the 2nd Quarter of 2016 Employee of the Quarter award. The Executive Council then chose Michelle as the 2016 Employee of the Year from the four Employee of the Quarter recipients for 2016. The Employee of the Quarter winners were Johnson, Lindsey Rothove, Charge Audit; Shelby Harmon, Medical Surgical, and Lynda Bonnette, Laboratory. In recognition of the Employee of the Year award, Johnson received the parking space of her choice for a year, her picture posted and name engraved on a permanent plaque displayed in the hospital, recognition at the Saint Luke’s Health System annual service award reception, a wall clock with recognition plaque and a two-night getaway at Big Cedar Lodge or Great Wolf Lodge. Johnson was described on her nomination form as “always having a smile on her face and is willing to go above and beyond to help anyone in any department. She is engaged and encourages others to be engaged and positive. She is always the first to recognize her coworkers by doing something special to celebrate them. She will leave early to come in and help on another day if needed. She will flex to other clinics as needed with short notice. Michelle always puts her patients and their needs first. She ensures patients are comfortable and at ease with difficult situations.” Johnson and her husband Duane have two daughters Abbye and Ashten. She is an active member of the First Baptist Church in Trenton where she is also a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union and assists with teaching two youth classes. She has a passion for mission work and has had the opportunity to serve in Nicaragua on multiple occasions. She enjoys reading, spending time with her family and volunteering in her free time. She volunteers at Church Women’s United Thrift Store in Trenton, at Pleasant View R-6, and at her church. She is a member of Hedrick’s Nurse Practice Council, serves on Hedrick’s Spirit of Giving Committee, and on the Caring Committee for Hedrick Medical Group. Johnson is a certified breastfeeding educator for Hedrick.
