The south exterior wall of the building at 504 Washington Street is being prepped for a new mural. The wall was once a showpiece of downtown Chillicothe and featured a mural of the picturesque Graham’s Mill Bridge. The mural, however, was removed in 2012 because of safety reasons. Main Street Chillicothe purchased the building last year and made renovations – inside and out – and now has it rented for residential use upstairs and commercial use (occupied now by All Strong Fitness) on the street level. Local muralist Kelly Poling is scheduled to begin painting the new mural next week, with a completion date, possibly as early as June 30. The mural will be similar to the previous one, showing Graham’s Mill Bridge “with a twist,” said Main Street Director Micah Landes. The renovations, including the mural, are financed by local public investment, through the Neighborhood Assistance grant, from the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
