The North Missouri Center for Youth & Families’ 5th annual Light the Night 5K and block party took place Saturday evening. The event has become the center’s largest public fundraiser of the year and involves music, fun, run and lots of glow. “We are very pleased with the event and we’ve heard nothing but good things about the experience for everyone,” stated NMCYF Director Daniel Savage. There were 175 total runners in the 5K. Savage noted that there were many first-time attendees. All proceeds benefit NMCYF’s programs and activities, especially the PowerUP! Afterschool program, which provides care for 50 children in grades kindergarten through eight each day after school, as well as offering a full day summer program. The total dollar amount raised through this year’s Light the Night event has yet to be calculated, according to Savage.
