Chillicothe – The Home of Sliced Bread – is hosting area, regional and national bluegrass bands at the 5th annual Sliced Bread Jam Bluegrass Festival, today (Friday) through Sunday morning, June 18. Two National Headliner Bands this year are “Volume Five” who will perform Friday and Saturday and “Flatt Lonesome” the nation’s premier bluegrass band, gets added to Saturday’s line-up. Regional bands, “Finley River Boys”, “Poa Annua”, “Lonesome Road” and the festival’s host band, “Rural Roots” perform Friday and Saturday. The festival is presented by the Chillicothe Area Arts Council. Festival location is the Litton Agri Campus. Bluegrass music returned to downtown Chillicothe with a free “kick-off concert” and “Open Jam” at Silver Moon Plaza, Thursday evening. The concert was co-sponsored by Main Street and the Chillicothe Area Arts Council. Festival bands “Poa Annua”, “Rural Roots” and “Lonesome Road” will perform at the Farmer’s Market area Saturday morning, from 10 until 11 a.m. Each band will play a 20-minute set. The Chillicothe Area Arts Council has presented the Bluegrass Festival at the Litton Agri Campus the past four years. Arts Director Mary Lou VanDeventer said that some of the best bluegrass bands in the country perform Friday and Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. with the last performance beginning at 8:40 p.m. There will be plenty of “jamming” going on before and after the stage shows. The admission gate opens 8 a.m. both Friday and Saturday. Friday and Saturday admission is $20 for adults, and $10 for children 13 years of age and older. Children 12 years of age and younger are admitted free with an adult ticket. Two-day passes are offered at a reduced price. A church service will be at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
