**** UPDATE ****

The EconoLodge that was closed a week ago following a state inspection was reopened Wednesday, June 21, following another state inspection.

In May, the State of Missouri did an inspection of the EconoLodge at 1020 Washington Street, here in Chillicothe. They found some safety issues that included non-functioning smoke detectors and sprinklers, among other issues. The state gave them an opportunity to correct all safety issues and would return in June for re-inspection of the facility. Upon a return visit and a second inspection earlier this month, the state inspectors came to find that very little had been corrected. After a process that includes the Chillicothe Codes and Zoning Department, the Chillicothe Fire Department and Prosecuting Attorney Adam Warren, the EconoLodge in Chillicothe was officially shut down on Thursday, June 15 for safety reasons. During the safety evacuation, Chillicothe Police Department learned of narcotics activity. Upon further investigation, a man with an out-of-state identification was arrested and charge with a narcotics violation. The Chillicothe Codes and Zoning Department did say that upon passing re-inspection of those corrections, the EconoLodge will be allowed to re-open for regular business.
