Parishioners celebrate Mass in Chillicothe’s newly-restored St. Columban Catholic Church Saturday evening. After months of restoration work, the church conducted an open house that afternoon. The restoration endeavor involved making the interior similar to what it looked like at its decorative height in about 1910. St. Columban Catholic Church is one of the oldest and most historic parishes in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. The parish celebrates its 160th anniversary this year. The current church was consecrated in 1879. Its pointed arches and high ceilings intentionally are meant to draw the eyes upward to contemplate heavenly realities.
