CHULA – A day full of activities is planned for the Chula Street Fair this Saturday, Sept. 16. Events begin with a biscuits and gravy breakfast at the community center from 7 until 9:30 a.m.
CHULA – A day full of activities is planned for the Chula Street Fair this Saturday, Sept. 16. Events begin with a biscuits and gravy breakfast at the community center from 7 until 9:30 a.m. The breakfast will be served with a free-will donation to benefit Chula Fire and Rescue. A diapers-only baby show will be at 9 a.m. at the Baptist church. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with a $3 entry fee. There also will be a bathing cuties show with youngsters two and three years of age wearing swim suits. The community center food stand will open at 9:30 a.m. A cake walk will be from 10:30 until 11 a.m. The parade, with the theme, “Cowboy Boots and Small Town Roots,” will be at 11 a.m. (lineup at 10:30 a.m., meeting at the Chula school). Grand marshals for the parade are Bob and Cathie Sherrow. An overall grand prize of $50 will be awarded and other cash prizes will be given in categories of most unique, antique, best them-related and animal. Following the parade will be a human foosball game, with signup starting at 11:30 a.m. behind City Hall. The entry fee is $30 for a team of six. There must be a minimum of two females per team. Carnival games will be available from noon until 3 p.m. Wrist bands for games are $10 for children eight years of age and younger. Punch cards ($10 for 20 games) are available for children 9 to 14 years of age. Individual tickets will also be available. Street games will take place from 3 until 5 p.m. The Miss Cornstalk contestants will be introduced at 5 p.m. The Chula Rural Fire Department will provide a free-will donation fish fry from 5:30 until 7 p.m. with proceeds going to the fire department. Another cake walk is scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by the announcement of the Miss Cornstalk winner. A family feud game will take place at 7 p.m. Winners of the Little Miss Chula and Little Master Chula will be announced at 8 p.m. Candidates for Little Miss Chula are Hanna Gilgour, Victoria Gramenz, Oaklee Venneman. Little Master Chula contestants are Maxwell Boon, Jaxon Boyles, and Oliver Reed. Top candidates will be crowned at 8 p.m. Saturday by the 2016 winners, Hallie Ann Howe and Brody Dennis. Tickets are $1 each, with cash prizes of $100 cash, $75 cash, $50 cash, gas cards, gift certificates and more. Raffle drawings for the Miss and Master tickets and the fire department quilt raffle will be held after the family feud game. There will be several vendors on site.
