Monday proved to be an ideal day for ice fishing at the Litton Agri-Science Learning Center pond just west of Chillicothe on Missouri Route 190 with temperatures in the mid-30s. After two weeks of below-freezing weather, including several days of sub-zero temperatures, the ice on the pond was an estimated seven inches thick, according to Conservation Educator Adam Brandsgaard. The Missouri Department of Conservation cut approximately 12 holes in the ice and invited the public to an afternoon of fishing. There were 10 people to fished, and a total of three fish (two bluegills and a channel catfish) were caught. The fishing event was sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation, which also provided bait and poles. C-T Photos / Catherine Stortz Ripley
