A special announcement will be made this Friday regarding the future of the Sliced Bread building at 1st and Elm streets in Chillicothe. This site – once home to Frank Bench’s Chillicothe Baking Company – was the first place in the world to sell commercially-sliced bread to the buying public. That historical event took place July 7, 1928. The building now is owned by the Sliced Bread Corporation. In addition to the announcement, the public is invited to tour the building and hear remarks from special guests. When asked for a comment, Ed Douglas, president of the Sliced Bread Corporation, stated: “We are excited to invite people to the true Home of Sliced Bread and are looking forward to making this announcement.” The event will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, 100 Elm Street.
