Hedrick Medical Center last year recorded its highest number of births in 18 years. There were 343 babies born at HMC during 2017. Of this number, there were four sets of twins. In all, there were 339 deliveries, the most since 1999, when the hospital had 333 deliveries. Laura Warren-Hughes, nurse manager of Maternity Services at HMC, said that HMC’s market has continued to grow and its service area has expanded. She noted that “having a wonderful new provider and the stellar reputation that HMC has for providing outstanding care” can be attributed to the growth. There were 187 baby boys and 156 baby girls born at HMC in 2017. The busiest month for deliveries, similar to the previous year, was August, with 40 deliveries; followed by February, with 32 deliveries. The slowest months for deliveries were March and May with 20 each. The most popular boy name chosen for babies born at HMC during 2017 was Lucas/Luke (4), Corbyn/Corbin (3), Elijah (3), Jaxon (3), Noah (3), Warren-Hughes said. The most popular girl name was Alivia/Olivia (5), Addison/Addisen (3), Gracelynn/Graiclynn (3), Harper (3), Leah/Leia/Leigha (3). A look back shows that there were 224 babies born at HMC in 2016, 199 babies in 2015, 22 babies in 2014, 189 babies in 2013, 179 babies in 2012, 144 babies in 2011, and 182 in 2010.
