A check in the amount of $6,500 was presented Friday evening to the family of JW Heil, the 7-year-old son of Tony and Beth (Hinkebein) Heil, of Carrollton, who has been fighting neuroblastoma cancer since he was three years old. JW has undergone radiation and chemotherapy treatment and now is participating in a cancer vaccination program. Medical tests have now shown JW as being cancer free. A fundraising basketball tournament, Hoops for JW, was held recently to raise funds to help with expenses incurred relating to JW’s medical treatment. The two-day tournament involved 47 teams comprised of seventh- and eighth-grade students. The host team is coached by Jason Montgomery.
