The Grand River Historical Society and Museum is soliciting the public for nominations and associated biographies for candidates into a Chillicothe Hall of Fame. This is the inaugural year for the Chillicothe Hall of Fame whereby three members are expected to be inducted. One new member will be inducted annually in subsequent years. Rodney Mouton, a board member for the GRHS&M who is leading the Hall of Fame program, asks that nominations with 200- to 500-word biographies be either dropped off or mailed to the museum at 1401 Forest Drive in Chillicothe, or emailed to him directly at SanctuaryGarden@outlook.com. Deadline for the receipt of nominations is April 15, 2018. “There are so many people from our past who have contributed to Chillicothe’s culture,” Mouton said. “Some of them have been recognized by street names, but very few of us know who they are, what they have done for us, or their significance to our collective character. We would all be richer to recognize them for their contributions as well.” The guidelines for candidates are few: They must have resided in Chillicothe, must never have been convicted of any crime, must have passed away no less than 35 years from the time of nomination, and must obviously have had a lasting contribution to Chillicothe. A three-member committee from the Grand River Historical Society and Museum will review and recommend top candidates to the full board. The Chillicothe Hall of Fame is anticipated to be a mobile exhibit that will reside in local businesses, government buildings, or other public places on a rotating basis.
