One-hundred pink and blue balloons were released on the south lawn of the Livingston County Courthouse Wednesday signifying the number of children who have died as a result of child abuse in Missouri during the last year.

The North Missouri Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse organized the balloon release with balloons having been provided by offenders of Chillicothe Correctional Center. The balloon release was part of events taking place Wednesday in observance of National Crime Victims Awareness Week. A resource fair, coordinated through Karen Hinton, the victim’s advocate for Livingston County, took place in the courthouse lobby and brought together representatives of many organizations. Organizations represented included B.A.C.A., Foster Adopt, Children’s Division, Green Hills Women’s Shelter, Birthright, Children’s Advocacy Center, Chillicothe Correctional Center’s Restorative Justice Program, the correctional center’s Puppies for Parole, Livingston County Food Pantry, Livingston County Health Center, Livingston Count Victim Services, PATCH, and more.
