Bennett home claimed by fire

Fire claimed the home of Clarence Bennett yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at 15599 LIV 423 in Mooresville. Chillicothe Fire Department received the call from the Livingston County Sheriff’s office and arrived on the scene at 3:27 p.m. Bennett told firefighters that he had left the house for a short time. When he returned their was smoke in the home. Bennett also stated that the only things on in the house were the refrigerator and the window AC unit.

Mooresville — The home of Clarence Bennett in Green Township was destroyed by fire Thursday afternoon.

The Chillicothe Fire Department received a call from the Livingston County Sheriff’s office for a structure fire at 15599 LIV 423, in Green Township at 3:14 p.m. Thursday. Firefighter/EMT Wayne Cummins, Firefighter/Paramedic David Gillespie, Firefighter, Jacob Hibner and Lt. Andy Vaughn arrived on the scene at 3:27 p.m. Utica was unable to be reached.

Upon arrival, the log cabin style house was on the ground. Chillicothe Fire Department used approximately 1,500 gallons of water to cool a 500-gallon propane tank. The occupant, Bennett, was on the scene and stated that he went outside and when he returned a short time later there was smoke in the house.

Bennett stated that the only appliances on in the house were the refrigerator and a window air conditioning unit.

The blaze was controlled at 4:01 p.m.
