Christopher Durnil was sentenced in Livingston County Circuit Court this week after being found guilty July 30, 2008, for the crimes of burglary 1st degree, assault 1st degree and armed criminal action.
This stems from an incident in Chillicothe where Durnil had been charged with unlawfully entering a residence for the purpose of committing the crime of assault and used a ball bat and struck the victim on the head, causing serious physical injury to the victim, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. The bat was used with such force on striking the victim that the ball bat broke.
Associate Circuit Judge R. Brent Elliott presided over the case and Livingston County Prosecuting Attorney Michael P. Koenig handled the criminal prosecution while Durnil had a team of lawyers with the public defender’s office. Testimony was heard from the victim, a relative of Durnil’s, a physician, Chillicothe Police Sgt. John Valbracht, Deputy Michael Claypole, Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Skoglund, Sheriff Steve Cox, Durnil and Durnil’s former girlfriend, the sheriff’s report stated.
Judge Elliott sentenced Durnil to 25 years on each charge, all of which are to run consecutively. Durnil was transported to the Missouri Department of Corrections in St. Joseph by the Livingston County Sheriff’s office earlier today (Thursday).
