The body of a man found in a construction company’s utility shed southeast of Chillicothe has been identified and the cause of death was determined to be from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation began June 2, when the body was discovered in a shed owned by Bentley Construction at the end of county road 249, a short distance south of U.S. Highway 36. The shed was primarily used for storage.
By working with a sheriff’s agency in another state and through the Livingston County coroner’s office, the deceased was identified as Paul Marlett, 49, from the Wisconsin and Minnesota area. Marlett’s vehicle was recently discovered in a remote area near rail road tracks a few miles from where the body was located. The vehicle was only visible from the rail road tracks and was discovered by local residents. The investigation revealed that the vehicle had broken down and had been lived out of for some time, Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox reported.
Livingston County Coroner Scott Lindley notified the sheriff’s office on Wednesday that DNA testing was conclusive with the identity, found from the birth certificate located at the scene. Relatives were notified.
