The city of Chillicothe is seeking grant funds to help remove vacant and dilapidated houses and commercial structures within the city.

A public hearing is set for 9 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) at City Hall to discuss the city’s submission of an application for the 2010 Community Development Block Grant program. The purpose of the grant is to help remove the slum and blighted conditions of the town.

Chillicothe City Council members on Monday night passed an ordinance regarding housing fees for the proposed demolition grant.

The grant is for up to $125,000 and, if approved, would provide funds for the demolition of between 30 and 40 houses, according to City Engineer Ron Urton. The application is being made through Green Hills Regional Planning Commission.

The city is interested in obtaining all citizens’ input on community development needs within the city.
