Replacing Poles

Winter’s dry weather is providing a rare, and welcomed, opportunity for Chillicothe Municipal Utilities electric crews to replace poles in this area of northwest Chillicothe. The location shown above is difficult to access most of the year because of continuous wet ground conditions. This week, though, crews have replaced nine poles on the west side of the city’s 69,000-volt transmission line that circles town and provides Chillicothe’s power. In all, CMU plans to replace 90 poles, most of which were installed in the mid-1960s, as part of its maintenance program, according to Electric Superintendent Matt Hopper.
