The Constitution-Tribune is celebrating its 150th anniversary with several events taking place this month as well as special sections being published and inserted into the daily newspaper throughout June.
Newspapers have played an important role in the development of Livingston County. The first paper published in Livingston County was “The Grand River Chronicle,” established in June 1843 with James H. Darlington as the editor. It was the only newspaper in the county and had shut down some time prior to the establishment of the Constitution.
The Chillicothe Constitution was established in 1860 by Dr. A.S. Hughes and the Chillicothe Daily Democrat was also first published in 1980 and was edited by Col. Jesse E. Hitt. Both newspapers experienced continued operation and in 1928 the two publications merged to create the Constitution-Tribune.
