Editor’s Note: The Constitution-Tribune asked Dr. Linda Gray Smith, R-2 Superintendent, and Chillicothe Middle School Principal Bryan Copple questions about moving the sixth grade students to the Chillicothe Middle School for the school year. Their answers follow:
How many classrooms must be created to accommodate the 140 sixth graders?
Seven classrooms were needed to accommodate the sixth grade. — Bryan Copple
Can you tell us if you have found room for all of those classrooms? Where are they?
Yes, we have found and created room in our existing facility. There were two classroom spaces available on the west side, however; after that we had to get creative. After working with the teachers, two classrooms were installed in the mini-gym. Two other teachers were able to combine rooms because of lower student numbers, and a couple other classrooms are being used by multiple teachers at different hours of the day. — Bryan Copple
Are there currently any classrooms that are not being used all day?
Every classroom at the middle school is being used all day. — Bryan Copple
Will the sixth graders have their own lockers? Where are they?
Yes, each sixth grader will have a brand new locker similar to the lockers used at the high school. The lockers will be placed in the mini-gym on the east side which is opposite the two new classrooms. — Bryan Copple
Are there any rooms that are currently being used for storage that can be used for teaching instead?
No, we have created two storage rooms for the custodians, but the rooms would have required extensive work to become classrooms appropriate for students. — Bryan Copple.........
