Chillicothe, Mo. -

How many bird species can you count while sitting in a 17’ circle? The answer varies from year to year so Grand River Audubon members will be out on the south shore of Swan Lake this Sunday, Oct. 12, to answer that question for 2008 when they have their fun bird count, The Big Sit!.

Habitat changes this year are drastic. Last year no water could be seen and the only visual evidence of ducks and geese was brought to light when a Bald Eagle swooped down over the reeds and caused them to fly up, still there were over 60 species counted for the day. This year the water is lapping at the very edge of the circle with very little vegetation is in evidence.  There are waterfowl in more shallow areas east of the circle area but flyovers can be counted so there will be birds to see including White Pelicans and Bald Eagles. ..........
