The Chillicothe R-2 School board will meet at the Litton Agri-Science Learning Center tomorrow (Tuesday) night for its regular March meeting which will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Shortly after the meeting is called to order, the board is slated to tour the district’s new ag building which is just weeks from completion.
Following the tour, the board is slated to take action on a variety of issues including possible ratification of the dollar amounts to be paid to the contractors/architects for the construction of the possible prekindergarten to second grade building and the renovations/repair project. Both projects are subject to voter approval.
The board is also slated to take action on the district’s facility master plan which allows the main access to the proposed elementary school on U.S. Highway 65.
According to Dr. Linda Gray Smith, having an entrance on U.S. Highway 65 will ease traffic congestion on Hornet Drive.
“It (the Highway 65 entrance) will allow a different traffic pattern for parents of elementary kids,” Smith said. She added that the new proposed location is also a less expensive place to build.
“The ground there is higher. So this would be a better location and it’s cost effective, too,” Smith said.
The board will also deal with personnel issues, including action on the district’s career ladder plan and whether or not the district will allow horizontal movement on the salary schedule during the next fiscal year.
The career ladder is a state-sponsored program and teachers within the district are eligible to enroll after five years of R-2 employment. The program, Smith said, is intended to, among other things, recognize master teachers, enhance education and encourage professional growth.
Teachers participate in the program by providing direct contact with students, such as tutoring, hosting activities for parents such as participating in curiculum night, making phone calls and talking with parents, and attending professional development meetings.
